What to do about the 66 things that start going wrong after sixty

By Dr. Jennifer Daniels

Nobody decides to lose their independence. It goes one small thing at a time.

The knees start complaining on the stairs, so you stop using the stairs. The eyes get worse, so you stop driving at night. The legs get weak, so one day you go down in the hallway — and everything changes.

Not because of the fall. Because of what everybody decides about you afterwards.

Your daughter starts a sentence with “we think it might be time…”. Somebody uses the word arrangements. And the decision about where you live and what you are still allowed to do gets made in a room you are not in.

I have watched that happen to people who were nowhere near finished.

Here is the part nobody tells you

Almost none of it is aging.

It is weakness. It is dehydration. And it is a diet with nothing in it to rebuild you with.

Those three things are fixable. Not at twenty — at any age, including yours. I have put people back on their feet who had already been written off, and I did it with food, water, and about ten minutes of movement a day.

When people fall, it is not a mental issue. It is a weakness issue. There are plenty of forgetful people who are strong as an ox and never fall, and that tells you the two have nothing to do with each other.

Start here

Three rules, before you buy anything

Get these right and a good half of what is in the book stops happening to you. This is the whole first chapter and I am giving it to you here, free, whether you buy it or not.

  • 1

    Water

Your body weight in pounds, divided by 50, in quarts a day. A 150-pound person needs three quarts. Most of what I am asked about is a dehydrated body saying so.

  • 2

    Bowel movements

Three a day, one for each meal. Not one a day. What does not leave through the toilet gets dumped somewhere else in you — and that somewhere else is what people call a diagnosis.

  • 3

    Connective tissue

Your joints, skin, gums and tendons are built out of it, and you cannot build them out of boneless skinless chicken breast. Pig’s feet, chicken feet, cow foot, ham hocks, oxtail. This is why the knees go.

What it actually is

Open it at the page you need. Do what it says.

This is not a book you read. There are no chapters to work through and nothing to get past first. Something is wrong — you find the page for it, and it tells you what to do, in order, with the amounts written out. A quarter teaspoon means a quarter teaspoon.

Falls

Falling in old age is a weakness problem, not a mental one. There are plenty of senile people with bad minds who are strong as an ox and never fall — that tells you the two have nothing to do with each other.

Do this
  1. Eat liver, brain, and cow’s feet regularly to build overall strength.
  2. Brain is for balance and cow’s foot is for strength. Use them together to prevent further falls.
Careful

In-bed passive range-of-motion exercises meant to simulate neurological function are a waste of time. They will not restore mobility.

That is one of the 66, reproduced exactly as it appears — the whole page, nothing left out.

Contents

Eleven sections

  • Getting your strength back 13
  • Staying on your feet 9
  • Getting around without pain 7
  • Feet you can still walk on 6
  • Legs and circulation 3
  • Skin that has gone thin 5
  • Keeping your mind 3
  • Strength and appetite 4
  • Digestion as you age 4
  • Through the night 4
  • Eyes, ears and mouth 8

The thirteen exercises come first, on purpose. You cannot eat your way out of weak legs. Every one of them is done holding a chair, a kitchen counter, or lying on the bed — no gym, no floor work, nothing you need help getting up from.

“I have been fascinated with health from a very young age. Alternative healing has always allured me as I found it intriguing how one can heal themselves without resorting to traditional pharmaceutical drugs.

I decided to approach this from a place of learning and experience. Academics have always been my strong suit. I graduated from Harvard University with honors, then continued my education at the University of Pennsylvania, from where I received my medical degree. I decided that this wasn’t enough, because I needed more education on how the health care system worked. I attended Wharton and received my MBA in health care administration.

To get hands-on experience, I practiced medicine for 10 years as a board-certified family practice physician. It was here that I first observed the power of natural remedies. That’s when I started understanding how natural methods still held a candle to modern medicine.”

A year from now is going to arrive either way.

The question is only whether you spend it doing your own stairs, driving yourself to the shops, and being the one who helps rather than the one being helped.

Nothing in this book is difficult. Most of it costs less than what you already spend at the chemist. And you can start the afternoon it lands in your inbox.

Questions

Before you order

What exactly do I get?

A 74-page book, delivered by email straight after you order. It opens on a phone, a tablet or a computer, and you can print any page you like. It is searchable — type what is bothering you and go straight to it.

Is this medical advice?

No. Nothing in it constitutes medical advice or treatment — it is educational. Please check with your doctor before making dietary changes or starting an exercise programme, and it is no substitute for emergency care. The full disclaimer and use agreement is at the bottom of this page and inside the book.

I am not much good with computers.

You do not need to be. The book arrives as a link in your email — you click it and it opens. There is nothing to install and nothing to set up. If it will not open for you, reply to that email and a real person will walk you through it.

Is this the big reference I have heard about?

No. This is the short book — the 66 things that come up most, one page each. The full reference is coming later this year, and what you spend today comes off it.

What if it is not for me?

Email within 30 days and I will refund you in full. Keep the book — I am not going to ask anybody to delete a book.
