It is nine o'clock on a Sunday night and something is wrong.

Maybe it is a sore throat that has gone from annoying to frightening. Maybe it is a rash that was not there this morning. Maybe it is a tooth, and the pain is now in your jaw and your ear.

And you are standing in the kitchen doing the same arithmetic everybody does. Is this the kind of thing that sorts itself out by Tuesday? Or is this the kind of thing where waiting until Tuesday is the mistake?

So you do what everyone does. You search it. And within four minutes you have read that it is nothing, and you have read that it is something very serious, and you are no closer to knowing which.

That is the gap this ebook was written to close. Not to keep you away from a doctor. To tell you, in plain words, which of the two situations you are actually in.

What one entry looks like

Every one of the 66 is laid out the same way, so you always know where to look.

Sore Throat

An example of the format. Every entry follows it.

1

What you are looking at

What is actually happening in your body, in language a person can follow, without a wall of Latin.

2

How to tell it apart

The plain differences between the mild version and the one with a different name. A sore throat and strep are not the same problem and they do not get the same answer.

3

What to do at home

What Dr. Daniels reaches for first, why, and in what order. Kitchen things and pharmacy things, both named.

4

How long it should take

What normal improvement looks like on day two and day four, so you know whether it is going the right way.

5

When to stop and call

The specific signs that mean this is no longer a home problem. Written plainly, with no hedging, because this is the part that matters most.

The part most books like this leave out

Knowing what to do at home is only half of it. Knowing when not to is the other half.

Some things are never a home problem

Every entry in this ebook carries its own stop and call list. There are also signs that mean get help now, whatever you think is causing them. They appear on the first page of the ebook, and they are here too, because nobody should have to pay $37 to read them.

  Chest pain or pressure
Trouble breathing or speaking in full sentences
A stiff neck with a fever
Confusion, or a person who is hard to rouse
Sudden weakness on one side, or a face that droops

The worst headache of your life, arriving all at once
A rash that does not fade when you press a glass to it
Bleeding that will not stop with pressure
A fever in an infant under three months
Belly pain that is severe, or that keeps getting worse

If any of those are happening right now, put this page down and get medical help. Nothing in this ebook, or any book, replaces a person who can examine you.

A few honest notes first

Better to know these now than after you have paid.

What this is

A reference ebook, written by a physician, for the things that come up at home.

A way to walk into an appointment knowing what to ask, and what you have already tried.

An ebook. It arrives by email and you read it on a screen or print it yourself.

Written for adults, about adults, in ordinary English.

What it is not

Not a reason to avoid a doctor. Several of the 66 need one, and the ebook says so on the page.

Not a diagnosis. Nobody can diagnose you from a book, including this one.

Not a printed book. It is an ebook, so nothing is posted to you and there is nothing to wait for.

Not a substitute for advice about your own prescriptions. Ask the person who wrote them.

Why almost everyone takes the series

This is ebook one of sixteen. Fifteen more land, one every Wednesday. Here is exactly what that costs.

A Note from Dr. Daniels

In thirty years of practice the same thing happened over and over. Somebody would arrive in my office having waited four days with something that wanted treating on day one. And somebody else would arrive having taken a day off work for something that wanted a glass of water and a night's sleep.

Both of those people were doing their best. Neither of them had any way of telling the two situations apart. That is not ignorance. Nobody teaches it.

So I wrote down the sixty six things I was asked about most, and for each one I put down what it is, what I would do first, and the point at which I would stop doing things at home and pick up the phone. That last part is the reason the ebook exists.

I want to be plain about one thing. There are problems in this ebook that need a doctor, and it says so on the page, in the entry, in bold. Pneumonia is in here so you can recognise it, not so you can treat it in your kitchen. The same is true of a tooth abscess, of a staph infection, and of several others.

The promise is not that you will never need me. It is that you will know which night is which.

Dr. Jennifer Daniels, M.D.

Questions people ask before they order

What exactly am I getting?

An ebook. What would Dr. Daniels Do?, 66 problems across eleven sections. It arrives as a PDF by email within a few minutes of ordering, and it is yours to keep. If you take the series, the other fifteen ebooks arrive the same way, one every Wednesday.

Is anything mailed to me?

No. Everything is digital. There is nothing to wait for and no shipping to pay.

What are the other fifteen ebooks about?

They carry on where this one stops, one subject at a time. Each one arrives on a Wednesday. If you are on the series, you get every one of them the morning it is finished, before it goes on sale to anybody else.

Why is it only 100 spots?

Because $397 for sixteen ebooks is a launch price, not the price. Each ebook is $57, so the set is $912 one at a time, and the fifteen that follow this one are $855 on their own. The launch price is there to get the series into the hands of the first hundred people who back it before it exists. When the hundredth spot is taken the offer closes and the set goes to $912. The single ebook has its own launch price, $37 for the first 500, and then it goes to $57.

Does anything renew or bill me again?

No. Both options are a single payment. There is no subscription, no card on file and nothing to cancel.

Is this telling me to avoid my doctor?

No, and it would be a bad ebook if it were. A large part of every entry is the list of signs that mean stop and get seen. Several of the 66 need a doctor every time, and it says so plainly in the entry rather than burying it.

I take prescription medication. Is this still for me?

Yes, but with one instruction. Anything you are thinking of taking, including things from a kitchen cupboard, should be run past the person who prescribes for you. Some ordinary remedies interact with ordinary prescriptions, and a book cannot know what you are on.

Can I read it on my phone?

Yes. It is a PDF, so it opens on a phone, a tablet, a laptop or an e-reader, and you can print it if you would rather have it on paper by the kettle.

What if I do not like it?

That depends which one you took. The single ebook has thirty days. Reply to the email your download came in on, we refund every dollar, and you keep the ebook. The sixteen ebook series is final sale, because you are reserving fifteen ebooks. If you are not sure, take the single ebook first.

How do I get it after I order?

An email arrives within a few minutes with your download link. If it has not appeared, check the spam folder first, then reply to your order confirmation and we will send it again.

Two ways in

One payment either way. The single ebook has thirty days to change your mind. The series is final sale.

500 spots at $37. 100 spots at $397.

When the five hundredth is taken this ebook goes to $57. When the hundredth is taken the set goes to $912.
